Promotive Engineering has specialised in
modifying Porsches for motorsport for over fifteen years.
We are now based in Brisbane, Australia but still service a
large number of customers interstate. We help our
customers at the top level of motorsport achieve success,
including winning the
Australian F2 Rally championship, wins
in international marathon and tarmac rallies such as the Panama
to Alaska and Classic Adelaide,
as well as success in circuit racing including Porsche Cup.
In 2007, Promotive Aviation
was formed to cater to the builders of
high performance experimental aircraft using an unlimited category aerobatic plane and
a light turbine helicopter as our main development platforms. We have a number of interesting
development projects underway so check out the links to the
Aviation site on the left...
The new (and not quite finished!)
online shop is where you can easily
purchase some of the specialised parts we make, as well as
surplus parts, Goodridge hoses and fittings and MilSpec wiring.
Latest news.
31.08.10 - It lives! It seems to have a
bit of mumbo too!
26.06.10 -
I have always believed in a private shakedown for a new car but the PLM GT2 did make a very public debut at the Shannons meet even though we haven't finished the tune. I
was amazed to see from the datalog that Pete had held back and
didn't exceed more than 50% throttle and 5000 rpm for the
duration of the test! That is some amazing self control!
Now that there are some kms on the car without blowing off an
intercooler hose we can put it back on the dyno to see what
numbers it will make, put in some decent Ferrodo brake pads and
let it run free!
19.06.10 - Things are almost back to 'normal' now. We have
spent a bit of time on the GT2 project and are now to
the stage where the car can be tested over the next few months
to fine tune it and sort out the bugs. Unfortunately there
have been a few issues that have delayed it from being tuned and
setup for its planned debut at the Shannons Nationals meet.
We will get some videos of it in the next few weeks...
We have
almost completed another nice 3.6 twin turbo conversion on a
road going narrow body 911. This one has our usual
internals including Carillos, custom pistons and cams, with
intercoolers, exhaust and Garretts on the outside. We are
using a V88 Vipec to control the sequential injection and coil
pack ignition and knock control. We will post a video of a
dyno pull when we have this one finished! For now, a photo
will do. I am sure this
car will need a wide body conversion soon! If you are
looking for a varioram manifold and all the parts to convert
your early 3.6 motor, we have one for sale in the second hand parts area...
01.03.10 - We are currently booked out to the end of the year
and not taking on any more major projects until we relocate the
workshop...
23.11.09 - I have finally started adding items to the shop.
I have started with the Ferodo brake pads and more parts will be
added soon.
25.11.09 - I have broken my golden rule of not letting water
cooled 911s into the workshop! This GT2 project is the
most radical looking car I have seen for a while! It
should be a lot of fun. The project log is - here. I am
not moving over to the dark side though...
It seems that turbo engines are all the rage at the moment!
I have just finished my last batch of engines for the year so I
can concentrate on getting some competition cars ready for next
years season. Next year is almost booked out already for
non competition work! I have tested some Vipec ECUs as a
cheaper option to the Motec systems that we usually fit and I am
really impressed! They are excellent value for money and I
am now offering them for sale as a dealer. If you want one
for a non Porsche application I recommend contacting Mark at
Godzilla Motorsport. I have them running around on a few
modified 911s now and am about to fit one to my workshop hack -
the green twin turbo cabrio so I can do a back to back test on
the engine dyno between its existing Motec M800 and the V88 to
prove a point. Stay tuned!
20.11.09 - Here is a great photo of a 996TT that we setup for
Classic Adelaide. The shock and spring rates were changed to
make the car more drivable on the limit. With just a setup
and brake pad upgrade it was more predictable and gained two
seconds a lap around the test track...
24.09.09 - I am not going to promise any more updates again, at
least until things slow down here! In Porsche world, the
flat fan motor is being stripped to check it out because it has
been sitting for a while. I have decided that it needs to
be twin turbo again and I can remove some weight and gain some
more efficiency by changing to a water intercooler. I am
aiming to have it on the dyno in the next few weeks. I
will endeavour to find the old project files from the old
website and add them to the Engineering site...
31.09.09 - A few updates are on the way... Already added
is an update to the Z2300 aerobatic plane project.
28.09.09 - There has been an error in my email link on the
website which was directing mail to an address that is long
gone... The link has been updated so emails will now get
through.
05.07.09 - Wow! So much for keeping the new website up to
date! We are so busy here at the moment that web content
and the online shop will have to wait a while... Now that
we can CNC port 911 heads, I have added a new flow bench to the
workshop arsenal so we can more accurately validate any changes
before the engine goes on the dyno. I had a bit of a
fiddle and now the flow data can be captured by the dyno's
datalogger... Customer projects have us snowed under at
the moment so progress on the flat fan motor (version 4!) is
slow, and work on the aircraft is limited to the specialty parts
that are being made elsewhere such as grinding the gears for the
main rotorbox and the wing for the plane that is being made in
the US...
23.05.09 - We are bringing a container back from
the US (LA) in August. At the moment we are only bringing
a 20ft container but I would like to upgrade to a 40ft so I can
bring in the aerobatic wing at the same time. That means
that we need to sell some space at a subsidised rate for a car
or two... Contact me
if you are interested...
16.05.09 - Welcome to the new look website!
The main reason for the change is the online shop which will be
open in July. Parts stocked will include lightweight
Goodridge hoses and fittings and Tefzel wire and supplies.
If you need some parts in the interim, please email us with your
requirements. We have always been to busy to spend much
time updating the website, but we should be able to get some
exciting footage of some of the toys we build here in the next
few months with the new gyro stabilised camera mount that we
have developed. It can be mounted in car and of course we
have already made a fitting to mount it on the helicopter!
We will be undergoing a few major changes in
the coming months. We have always been short of room but
with the arrival of the engine dyno and the final assembly of
the plane becoming imminent, we really need to move to a larger
workshop! The move is delaying a few of our big customer
projects but stay tuned for their progess.
